The Training Team provides education and training to the community through direct contracts secured by successful tender, partnership activity with mainstream providers and grants from charitable sources. The Training Team consists of 4 core staff who are supported by part-time and specialist staff as required for each project. The core team members include; Training Development Officer, I.C.T. Tutor, Skills for Life Tutor (part-time), and Administrator. Current projects include:

As a UK Online Centre we have access to ‘first time online’ assessment and learning activities. Additional learning resources and ‘First Time Guides’ are extending our provision for new learners and stimulating interest in the internet as a source of information. ‘First Steps’ training software is designed for absolute beginners with or without speech output, and ‘e-Citizen Guide’ provides progression to the British Computer Society E-Citizen qualification, as well as being a clear and useful resource linking to simulated web sites for on-line participation.

New learners are targeted through all our projects including networking with partners, local groups and organisations. We are members of the Area Learning Partnership and Selby Strategy Forum Social Sub Group. The role of the Regen Centre in adult and community learning is recognised in the Learning and Skills North Yorkshire Strategic Area Review.

Our contacts with community groups and volunteers enable us to circulate information to surrounding villages, and strong links with employers in the area are also being developed through various packages including I.C.T., basic and key skills, health and safety training.

• We are a Network Information Point and offer free internet access for up to 1 hour per session.

Working in partnership with North Yorkshire Forum for Voluntary Organisations we are working with Voluntary and Community organisations to develop their ICT skills through the Challenge Yourself project. This is open to all VCS organisations.

We deliver I.C.T. training including beginner and accredited courses (ECDL and CLAIT levels 1 - 3, MOUS) to the community and businesses, and to the voluntary sector as a partner in an L.S.C. contract. We have delivered to a range of voluntary organisations from a wide area including outreach work in Thirsk.

I.C.T. training is delivered in our Training Suite which accommodates 10 workstations connected to their own network, in addition to 10 laptops which we have used for outreach work. We currently offer 5 workshop sessions a week with tutor support. workshop times vary please contact Jo Atkinson for details.

Larger screens, additional sound ports and colour printing are improving multimedia effects and engaging ‘hard to reach’ new learners. The addition of headphones with speech output and screen reader is extending access to learning and the internet for those with impaired sight or literacy needs. The Regen Centre has full disabled access with dedicated facilities including disabled parking by the main doors.

An Interactive White Board and LCD projector facilitate demonstration in taught classes for those who prefer this style of teaching.

Calling all carers the Changing Lives project, in partnership with Carers' Resource, is designed to help you gain new skills or brush up some of those rusty ones, contact David Owen for details.
