Initially funded through the Department for Education and Skills for one year - to June 2002 - the Neighbourhood Learning Centre project was a research and consultation pilot which produced 3 main bodies of work;
 | A Social Inclusion Strategy
|
 | A Community Learning Profile
|
 | A Development Plan
|
and organised a number of taster courses for the community.
Our ability to successfully meet project targets has been proven over the six years since opening, during which time we have worked with, amongst others, the Learning and Skills Council, York, Selby, Wakefield, Askham Bryan and Craven Colleges, Job Centre Plus, Knowledge Base UK Ltd and York Training Centre. Some of these partnerships were formed as part of the Task Force set up to help miners in the Selby Coalfield as the mines went through the process of managed closure.
The Centre hosts a CRT funded Network Information Point with free internet access.
ICT provision is an exciting and ever-expanding area with taster and bitesize courses, e-citizen, e-passport and ECDL levels 2 and 3 and Microsoft Office User (MOUS).
Projects running currently are:
Challenge Yourself- free ICT training for Voluntary, Community and Faith groups (in partnership with North Yorkshire Forum for Voluntary Organisations).
Changing Lives - free advice, guidance and training for employed and unemployed carers(in partnership with Carers' Resource).
