Duke of York Community Initiative

CONGRATULATIONS! The Riccall Regen Centre has gained the Duke of York Community Initiative Award for the third time in recognition of its excellent work in providing a range of facilities and events to cater for all parts of the community in Riccall and the wider area. By the people for the people! The award was presented to Steve Beck, the Centre Manager by HRH The Duke of York at a ceremony at Huddersfield University in April. Riccall Regen Centre was the only organisation in North Yorkshire to gain the 2010 award. At the award ceremony, special mention was made of the Centre’s internal marquee, a unique facility in the area between Selby and York for hosting special events. Windmill Nursery

The Windmill Nursery at the Riccall Regen Centre has received the final stage payment of the £7000 grant awarded by North Yorkshire County Council to improve its outdoor play provision. The grant from North Yorkshire’s Early Years and Childcare Service is part of a £2.2million initiative to support private, voluntary and independent settings in making improvements to their outdoor provision in order to provide quality outdoor play. Children are expected to play and learn outdoors for at least 50% of their time whilst in childcare. Windmill Nursery is a small nursery run by highly trained and caring staff in a very secure and welcoming environment. It caters for up to 21 children from 3 months to 5 years old and is rated ‘Goodâ...

Shepherd Group

York-based Shepherd Group has made a donation of £500 to the Riccall Regen Centre to assist in its ongoing fundraising to enable it to carry on with its community function and charity work support. Regen Centre Chairman, Edward Wilkinson, said: ‘We are extremely appreciative of Shepherd’s generous donation, which will be used to help update the Centre’s facilities, so that it can continue to offer a high class service to the local and wider community’.

The Riccall Regen Centre is an award winning Business and Community Centre, which was opened by the Duke of York in 2000. It recently received the Duke of York’s Community Initiative Award for the third time. The only organisation in North Yorkshire in 2010 to do so.

The Shepherd Group is one of the leading family-owned private businesses in the UK. It was founded in 1890 in York and its head offices remain in the City. The Group’s operations in national and international markets include substantial companies in Construction and Engineering, Manufacturing and Property Development.

Entente Cordiale

A party of visitors from Selby’s twin town, Carentan in France, have spent the weekend in the district. The 44 strong party are staying with host families. After a visit to Whitby last Friday, they attended a dinner in the Big Top marquee at the Riccall Regen Centre on the Saturday. The dinner was also the first official engagement for Selby’s new MP, Nigel Adams. A great time was had by all. The party returned to France yesterday. Au revoir.

Riccall Regen Award

At a recent ceremony at York College, Noel Shouksmith, a Director of the Riccall Regen Centre, presented the annual Riccall Regen Award to Gary Yeoman. The Award comprises a cup and a cheque for £25 and is presented to a student making a successful career change. Gary is a former plasterer who is completing an HNC in Building Studies. He now works for York City Council as a Housing Inspector.
