How it all started

The management body of The Riccall Regen Centre, Riccall Regen 2000 is an independent Social Enterprise Limited by Guarantee and a Registered Charity. The unincorporated organisation was formed in 1996, with 21 representatives of local community organisations and interested individuals. £1.5m was raised from funders to construct and equip the Centre. The following agencies helped with the funding:

  • The Big Lottery
  • Community Fund
  • European Regional Development Fund
  • Yorkshire Forward
  • Countryside Agency
  • RJB Mining UK Ltd
  • Parish and County Councils
  • The Coalfields Regeneration Trust

Plus a number of other trusts and smaller businesses – plaques which acknowledge their support can be found in the Centre’s rotunda.

In addition £25,000 was raised through the local community, over 3 years.

The Riccall Regen Centre operates as a social business, generating earned income and securing contracts in order to meet this purpose. Ahead of its time in design, the Riccall Regen Centre is an environmentally friendly building using solar and photovoltaic panels to generate electricity.

The Riccall Regen Centre is community-owned and community-led and strives to achieve excellence in everything it does. Awards include the Duke of York’s Community Initiative and the BURA Charitable Trusts National Award.

Riccall Regen Centre was officially opened in September 2000 by the Duke of York. It is now in its 10th year and will be celebrating with a number of events throughout 2010.
